#5 Preparing for Japan: No Time Left!

“Extraordinary things only happen to extraordinary people” –Reepicheep, Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

I have way too much stuff. No joke. I think I’ve repacked my luggage about 3 times now. I’ve even attempted to use a space bag, but the only kind that I could find was the large sizes meant for storage and it ended up taking up more space in my luggage than when I was just rolling everything up as tightly as possible and shoving it into every nook and cranny available. The third time around I had managed to fit my rain boots into my bag, whereas the first two times I had forgotten them.
As for reading material like children’s books and cook books, I put the lightweight books in the bigger bag and the heavier books in the smaller bag. I’m trying to keep my larger bag from being horribly heavy when it gets weighed for checking my luggage. Then the books I have for the flight (like the ones about Japan and my work-related materials) are going in my book bag that I have for carry-on. I really wish I could bring more things, but my suitcase just won’t allow that. Once everything is all packed and zipped up, I’ll tidy up my bedroom a bit so that it won’t be messy for the next year or so… Which will be hard because I have things strewn everywhere in my room right now. I have also packed some posters and wall putty to decorate my apartment with. I hate having to look at blank white walls, so the posters should help. I also might enforce the rule that whoever visits my apartment has to draw a picture to put on the wall. It was something that got started by my apartment roommate and some very silly neighbors when I was in college and it definitely added a spice to our living room. I think I may try it again in Japan.

Anyway, so the plans for today consist of going to the spa with my mom and sister for some scheduled relaxation time, and then dinner later tonight at Red Lobster. Then late night will be a scramble to get the last of my things stuffed into my suitcases along with doing some last minute laundry of the items I’ve been wearing this week.

Tomorrow: I’ll be getting up at 5:30 or 6 am to get myself together (as much as anyone can for the crack of dawn) and heading out the door at 6:30 am hopefully. My flight is as 8:50 am and that goes to Seattle first, then I have a short layover (about 2 hours) and then about a 12 hour flight to the Osaka-Kansai airport. You know, no biggie.
A company Rep will be meeting me at the airport and transportation is paid for. All I have to do is forward my luggage to my branch school and get through customs then I’m off to be exhausted with Jet lag! Oh yeah, and training.

So those are the plans. I will have my camera on me as much as possible so I can take tons of photos for you all along the way! This will be the last entry with the “Preparing for Japan” title at the top and posts will remain numbered. See you all on the flip-side!
